Fiberglass Repairs

To the boatowner, few things are more disheartening than staring at the blurry edge of broken fiberglass. However, one of its greatest qualities is fiberglass repairability. The most horrifying hole in a fiberglass hull is repaired easily with a bit of fiberglass, a resin supply, and equal ability and care in the pieces. And the fix is less patchy than an indistinct new piece of skin.  

Fiberglass lay-up is nothing more than layers of polyester (or epoxy) resin-saturated glass cloth, but most boat owners picture a self-applied patch as just marginally more durable than a wet Band-Aid. That is a myth. Follow a few basic laws, and make your lay-up as sturdy as the rest of the ships. Some repairs are superficial to avoid the glaze of the sore eye and some are much necessary for the safety and life of your vessel. Whichever the case, the best solution would be to let the experts handle it.
